"Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I learn"
Benjamin Franklin Kids are products of their environment and learn through the examples they have within their lives. Every single person involved in another persons life plays a role and impacts them. You can have a positive or a negative impact on others. The impact you have is your decision and those you influence see how you act and carry yourself. I hope we can all learn something from this 4th grade student! In a world where teachers are consistently criticized and under fire for everything we don't do this is why we do what we do! It certainly isn't for the title, for the money, or for the summers breaks. Its for these moments! This is amazing! I walked into this taped to my office door and was the first thing I got to see this morning before getting ready for a day of teaching. Students learn so much from Physical Education and within our gymnasium at Climax-Scotts. Physical Education is so much more then “gym” and we don’t just roll out the let them to play. They learn fundamental skills that will enable them to be lifelong movers, through lessons that are structured to encourage them and build physical competence. Our students learn the importance of relationships and about caring for those around us (I am not taking credit for the action of this young lady, because it is much bigger than me), but I am going to give recognition for something awesome! Students are taught that they don't have to be the best at every activity we do in class, but that they are expected to put forth their personal best every class period. They understand each other’s differences and are encouraged to teach and guide each other in all of our learning. Our students have been taught failure is a teachable moment and that learning occurs when properly processed, as well as failure isn’t necessarily bad. It is instilled in them that kindness and respect is essential to their success as people and that their words and actions have weight. One of our focuses in class this week is lifting others up and well. This young lady has reached mastery with that objective. I am proud she has found a love for physical education and enjoyment in being physically active. Her confidence in our football related skills will increase as we progress through the week! Our overall focus this week is football and increasing the knowledge and competence of the game of football. We are doing this not by setting up a game of 7 vs 7 or 11 vs 11 we aren’t even playing the actual game of football. We are learning concepts, skills, and terms related to the game of football, through mini games that build on these fundamental skills and increase their overall knowledge. Not only do the football players learn but so does every student that was nervous about seeing “Football Fun Week” on the white board. It isn’t my job or goal to create NFL players or even High School football players, but to teach skills in concepts that can transfer into whatever each individual student decides to pursue in life. Proud teacher moment because this girl gets it! She understands that she doesn’t have to be the best at “football skills” but that it is key to do your best even if it’s not your favorite activity. She understands that physical activity is important, she finds enjoyment even in (football) something she isn’t super confident in, she is willing to try and isn’t scared to fail, and most importantly she will experience success in whatever she chooses to pursue throughout her life with these traits and characteristics. She is a prime example of a leader within her class and within our school. You Rock and I think you are amazing! ~Nice job mom and dad! MR. FRISBIE
